A lifelong artist, Joy Jackson is delighted to be able to use her talent and experience to help businesses of all sizes market their products and services.
At the Art Institute of Philadelphia, way back in the 80's, Joy discovered a passion for graphic design, logo making, and fonts. Her favorite teacher, Jack Duffy, encouraged her to abandon her pursuit of fashion illustration and jump into the deep end of the graphic design pool—so she did!
With bills to pay and lots to learn, Joy hit the road and took a management position with a retail company to gain experience in the business world. She lived and worked in New Hampshire, where she learned to ski poorly and had an interesting run-in with a moose. She transferred to New York where she honed her management skills and learned to properly hail a cab. While in New York, Joy discovered herself about to embark on the most important job of her life: motherhood.
With a baby on the way, Joy packed up and moved back to Pennsylvania to be close to family. She accepted a position as co-op advertising manager in the advertising department of a newspaper chain, working as the liaison between local business owners and large corporate vendors to create advertising campaigns and secure reimbursements. The time spent in advertising reconnected Joy to her love of graphic design.
Looking to cut back her commute and be closer to her young daughter's school and activities, Joy next accepted a position in the business office of a community hospital. It wasn't long before her co-workers discovered the extent of her talents and she was asked to add her artistic flair to various projects. This led to a position in the IT department, where she ran the help desk, created the hospital's employee intranet, and eventually took over the design and maintenance of the hospital's website.
As the hospital transitioned from a non-profit entity to a for-profit organization, Joy was promoted to marketing director. A one-woman show, Joy set out to change the public's perception of the facility with a new name, a complete re-branding, and a marketing plan that included web development, television and radio spots, billboard campaigns, newspaper ads, a direct mail newsletter, physician marketing, and employee development. This position allowed Joy to work with every department and employee in the facility and marked a time of real growth in her creativity, communication skills, and business acumen.
Feeling the need to spread her brightly-colored wings and break out of the corporate realm, Joy moved to Columbus, Ohio in 2005. While sorting out her new life and unpacking boxes, she fielded phone calls requesting assistance with design and marketing from several previous vendors and contacts. Before she even knew what was happening, Joy had become a successful freelance designer. And she's never looked back!
When she is not creating exceptional and eye-catching design projects to wow her clientele and their customers, Joy spends her free time showering love and affection on her amazing husband, beautiful daughter, unique family, and wildly creative friends. She also loves spoiling her grand-puppy, Dexter (the perpetually enthusiastic French Bulldog) and attempting to herd three very demanding and completely lovable felines.
